Second Favourite Colour – Green

Second Favourite Colour – Green

My second favourite colour is Green. Recently, I have been using various hues of green in my abstract realism paintings. Mostly for the grass amongst the wild flowers and the leaves on each tree within the abstract landscape. Building up the images of grass takes some hours, as I start with the dark green colours for long grass then when the painting has dried, I add lighter greens to create depth in the scene.

You will also notice other colours, such as yellow ochre, purple and yellow. This is to add interest to the wild grass before the flowers are added later. Some greens are straight from the tube, but most are a mixture of blue and yellow with either white or black added. This method of mixing means that a range of different greens can be produced; which adds to the depth of the images.

Green is associated with new beginnings and growth. As the season changes from winter into spring, the grass begins to grow quickly! Too quickly, if you hate mowing the lawn! Also linked to the colour green is the connotations of renewal and abundance, so you should feel good viewing a painting with lots of green within the image!

The combination of my two favourite colours, blue and green can make a lovely painting that people can stand back and admire!

I hope you agree with me that green is an amazing colour and it really adds to a painting if applied well. If you enjoy viewing my paintings please buy either an original acrylic canvas frame painting or one of the canvas framed prints that are available in various sizes from our shop
