This year the North Ayrshire Open Art Exhibition runs from the 6th July until 20th July at the Racquet Hall in Eglinton Park, near Kilwinning. I have submitted two paintings which I hope will be chosen to be exhibited. The large painting – Summer Days – is 30″ x 24″ and is an abstract realism painting. See below –
I enjoyed painting this art work because of the bright summer type colours I could use in the scene. In particular, the sky. Starting at the horizon, I chose Prussian blue mixed with Windsor blue and gradually blended a variety of blues as I progressed down the canvas. Eventually adding Titanium White to the blue to create the very light coloured blue at the base of the canvas.
The sky was similar, starting with Prussian blue and blending other blues as I progressed from left to right across the canvas. I also wanted a bright red/orange sky with yellow as well. Why not?
Keeping it abstract as well as realistic!
The foreground was painted with a wide variety of greens – which was also enjoyable, as each time I entered the art room I could mix up another tone of green to add to the painting!
As usual, the grass took a long time to create. Layer after layer of colours were added over the weeks until I was happy to stop and start to add flowers. Again the enjoyment came from mixing colours to represent flowers.
I hope you like the final finished painting!
My second abstract realism paining that I hope gets chosen to display at the exhibition is – Summer Waters. It is similar in theme to the first – see below –
This smaller painting, 16″ x 12″, was created using very similar colours to the first art work. Although, the sea was painted using metallic blue which gives it an extra shine! The beach colour is metallic gold which when I finished applying it really lifted the scene to another level.
I hope you will manage along to the Racquet Hall during July to view all the paintings being displayed and perhaps buy one or two to add to your home or office.
I will be there hopefully on several days as I really enjoy viewing the wide variety of painting styles by so many talented artists. Perhaps I will see you there!
