Blue, Orange and Green Themed Abstract Paintings

Blue, Orange and Green Themed Abstract Paintings.

I decided to paint a series of abstract images using a blue theme as the basis of the acrylic painting. I followed this up with two orange themed paintings and finally two green themed pieces of art. Six abstract 20cm x 20cm canvas framed paintings.

The first was Safe Haven, shown below.

Using a blue theme, I used prussian blue, cobalt blue and celerium blue with a dash of white titanium for the background colours. I then used a palette knife to apply the mars black lines. Finally, I chose several colours to infill some of the triangular shapes.

The background gives the impression of a sae haven for vessels, The lines imitate those of by gone sailing ships and the triangles could be sails. Overall, it has the theme of a nautical painting, I think. What are your thoughts?

I followed this first painting with another, based on similar colours.

Welcome
Welcome

Welcome, used the exact same colour palette as Safe Haven but as you can see with a different design. The black lines continue with the nautical theme of masts and square rigged vessels. In addition, other images are contained within the painting, giving the viewer more to investigate and imagine.

Having completed the two paintings above, I moved on with an Orange theme for the background colour.

Onward
Onward

Onward, used cadmium red, cadmium orange, pink, cadmium yellow, with a dash of titanium white for the background. At one point I became worried that a mud colour brown was about to be produced during the mixing of colours, but I think I managed to avoid it!

I then started with the rectangular shape in the centre of the painting and overlaid several colours. My initial thoughts were to continue to do this process throughout the painting.  However, I changed my mind and used the palette knife to draw rectangular shapes with the mars black paint.

I infilled each shape with various colours. I deliberately chose the colours of the Ukrainian flag and this gave me the idea of the name of the painting, Onward.

For the second painting using this theme Arise, I continued with the same palette of colours.

Arise used the same colours but with a different layout of black lines. Rectangles and triangles were drawn in this painting to symbolise movement upwards; as an uplifting experience. Once again the colours of the Ukrainian flag are incorporated in the abstract painting. Obviously, in response to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

My third themed pair of abstract paintings are based on green coloured backgrounds.

A Good Day to Grow
A Good Day to Grow

A Good Day to Grow used a palette of Cadmium green, Cobalt blue mixed with Cadmium yellow, a dash of titanium white; for the background design. Mars black was applied using the palette knife. Only a few of the triangle shapes were infilled with colour. The colours are associated with growth, hope and health.

Finally, Continue to Grow was completed using the same colour palette.

The pleasing background was enhanced using the infilled red, pink and blue colours. Mars black lines have been designed to inspire growth, hope and healthy living in the viewer.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my series of abstract paintings inspired by the themes of blue, orange and green.
