Welcome

 Welcome!

We started producing abstract art shortly after Covid 19 caused places to close and lockdown to happen all over the world. April 2020 was the month when we created space in our home by clearing a bedroom of all its contents and setting up an art studio! It became pretty messy quite quickly!

Above is our very first abstract painting!

After a few weeks it became obvious that some organisation was required.

Also, the walls and curtains were getting paint splatters on them! So, a new approach was needed. We moved the ‘art studio’ to the smallest bedroom and redecorated the bedroom, cleaned the curtains etc. Less room in the new ‘art studio’ meant it really needed organised with a place for each item – paints, tools, canvases, brushes etc.

The easel was replaced with what could best be described as a ‘trough’. The trough was given 3 uprights and cling film wrapped around these poles. Less paint to get on the walls and curtains! The laminate floor still gets covered. It needs regular cleaning!

The natural light is good in this new room and the electric lights provide brightness in the evenings, which is ideal. The other constant is my routine of always wearing a lab coat while I paint. There is something about putting this on that helps focus my attention on being an artist. It is as if I am now at work. So I always wear it while painting.

I was a school teacher until March 2020. However, as with many people during the following months of lockdown decided to evaluate my lifestyle. Some structure during the day was still required so time was set aside to start painting. Design layouts were drawn in a new notebook and this is still used today. Thoughts and ideas are jotted down as they occur. Which is a good technique to do in all ways of life. I am now a full time abstract artist!

I will share my other methods and practices in the coming weeks and months. I hope you follow along!
